Ash Settle (?-2019)

Ash was a sweet, loving, gray haired kitty with the most beautiful green eyes.

Although he “belonged” to a neighbor, you would usually find him outside in all kinds of weather. He was a true alley cat, and would often get into some nasty fights that left him battered and bloody 🙁

Over the 2 years or so that I knew Ash, we became good friends. I remember during one heavy snowstorm, he wound up on our fence but was afraid to jump back down. I went out and rescued him, then took him home.

I started feeding Ash regularly in 2018. Although still showing the scars of being a street cat, at least he was putting on some weight.

In May 2019, the neighbor said Ash wasn’t coming home anymore and I agreed to take him in. First priority was getting him vaccinated, then getting him fixed.

For two weeks, Ash was eating good food, getting lots of rubs and enjoying an abundance of love. He seemed to be adjusting until one day. I rushed him to the vet first thing the following morning. When they attempted to catheterize him, Ash went into cardiac arrest and passed away…

I was heartbroken but took comfort in knowing he had a wonderful, loving home for the last 2 weeks of his life. He gained a full pound in that short time and really seemed happy.

Rest in peace Ash, until we meet again…xo Tom.
